2nd Annual Deborah Idol Contest

Auditions Scheduled to Find the Best Singers
Are you the best singer ever? If so, you could sing your way to fame and cash prizes as part of the Deborah Idol Competition!

In its second year, Deborah Idol (sponsored by the Deborah Hospital Foundation) is a singing competition that looks for the best. Preliminary auditions are being held Wednesday, June 5 at 5:00 p.m. at Pemberton Township High School; Wednesday August 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Enterprise Center at BCC on Route 38 in Mt. Laurel; and Sunday, September 8th at 1:00 p.m. at Silver Ridge Park Westerly in Toms River.

During the preliminary auditions, singers in two age divisions, 10-16 years old and 17-25 years old, will have 45-seconds to sing an a capella selection that will wow the judges -- and win them one of the Top Ten Finalists slots in the final competition to be held on October 19 in Pemberton Township. The Finalists will each have 3-1/2 minutes to sing to their pre-recorded background music, with a panel of professional singers, songwriters, and musicians judging the performances. The winner in each division will be awarded a $1,000 Grand Prize. First Runner-Up will win $300 and 2nd Runner-Up will win $200.

Last year during the inaugural event, Alyssa Biederman of Marlton was named the winner in the Junior Division with her stirring rendition of “Astonishing” and Lorraine Perri of Florence won in the Senior Division for “Gravity.”

“It was a really good experience being in Idol,” said Alyssa. “I had a great time, and after the contest I was given other opportunities to perform at a number of Deborah events. If you love to sing and want to perform, this is a great opportunity to work on your stage presence. The judges gave me a lot of helpful advice.”

Pre-registration for the preliminary auditions is required. The number of contestants per location is limited. There is a $25 registration fee for the preliminaries, and a $5 admission fee to view the auditions.
