Deborah Heart and Lung Center recently received a three-year reaccreditation for its non-invasive vascular laboratory by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL). The Deborah lab has been certified by the Commission every three years since 1997.
The ICVAL has accredited the lab in extracranial cerebrovascular testing, peripheral arterial testing, and peripheral vein testing.
The ICAVL is a nationally-recognized organization providing the highest level of standards to be met during its accreditation process. During the hospital’s evaluation, every aspect of the lab’s daily operations and its impact on the quality of health care provided to patients is assessed and reviewed. While completing the application, labs are required to
Participation in the accreditation process demonstrates the laboratory’s attention to a high level of patient care and quality testing.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Stroke is the third leading case of death and disability, with over 500,000 new strokes occurring annually. Each year over 2 million people in the United States alone develop deep vein thrombosis –
blood clots in the vein. This condition becomes life threatening for 500,000 of those people when the blood clot breaks loose and travels to the
lungs. Early detection of these
clots is possible through the use
of noninvasive vascular testing techniques – one of the key
functions in Deborah’s vascular
lab.
