Deborah Appoints New Pulmonary Chair Andrew Martin, M.D., also Named as Director of the Institute for Sleep Medicine

John R. Ernst, President and CEO of Deborah Heart and Lung Center, a specialty heart, lung and vascular hospital in Browns Mills, has announced the appointment of Andrew Martin, MD, of Plainsboro as new Chair, Pulmonary Medicine and Director of the Institute for Sleep Medicine. The appointment is effective October 29, 2009.

A graduate of Rutgers University College of Engineering, Dr. Martin received his medical degree from UMDNJ—Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1988. He served his internship and residency at the Roger Williams Medical Center at Brown University and his fellowship at UMDNJ—Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in the Pulmonary Division.

In addition to his other titles, Dr. Martin has served as Medical Director in the Critical Care Unit at the University Medical Center in Princeton and the Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Somerset Medical Center. As well, he was Medical Director for Critical Care Medicine and the founding Medical Director of the Center for Sleep and Breathing Disorders at St. Peter’s University Hospital.

Licensed in New Jersey and Rhode Island, Dr. Martin is board certified in ABIM-Internal Medicine; ABIM-Pulmonary Medicine; ABIM-Critical Care Medicine; and the American Board of Sleep Medicine. He is a member of a number of professional societies, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, the NJ Thoracic Society, the NJ American Lung Association, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
A prolific researcher and writer, Dr. Martin has published numerous articles, editorials, abstracts and book chapters in a wide range of professional publications.
