Lenape High School’s winning streak continues for the fourth consecutive year in the medical quiz-show style Heart Challenge co-sponsored by Deborah Heart and Lung Center and Pemberton Township School District held Sunday, February 22. Lenape High School battled students from Shawnee, Cherokee, Seneca, Holy Cross, Rancocas Valley, Moorestown Friends and Pemberton Township High Schools for the academically prestigious championship title and the prize money of more than $3,400.
“The Heart Challenge presents an annual opportunity for area students to boast their medical knowledge, and we commend all participating students for their dedication and academic achievements and offer special congratulations to the students at Lenape High School on their continued success in the competition,” said John Ernst, president and chief executive officer of Deborah Heart and Lung Center.
Emceed by legendary Philadelphia sports personality Don Tollefson, the 90-minute competition began with a rapid-fire question found, followed by individual and team question rounds, ending with a ten-minute rapid-fire “Jeopardy-style” round that tested fast fingers on the buzzers. The Lenape students impressed the distinguished panel of Deborah physicians with their seemingly endless knowledge of the heart, lungs and vascular systems Deborah Heart and Lung Center’s three specialty services.
Deborah Heart and Lung Center and Pemberton Township Schools partnered over ten years ago to launch the event in celebration of National Heart Month. The rigorous contest has now grown into one of the premier academic competitions in south Jersey.
