Rutgers Football Coach Greg Schiano Receives Deborah Humanitarian Award

Rutgers head football coach Greg Schiano was named the recipient of the 23rd Annual Humanitarian Award, bestowed by Deborah Hospital Foundation. In ceremonies held at the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel in East Rutherford, NJ, Coach Schiano was recognized for supporting Deborah Heart and Lung Center and its ongoing charitable mission, as well as his efforts in building one of the top college football programs in the nation.

A roster of distinguished guests was on hand to present Coach Schiano’s award including Francis A. Tedesco, President of Academy Bus, LLC; Carl J. Goldberg, Managing Partner of Roseland Property Company; Ivan Baron, Partner and General Counsel, Roseland Property Company; and Burt Trebour, President, Trebour Consulting Services, LLC.
In his nine years as head coach at Rutgers (the longest-tenured coast in the Big East), Coach Schiano has been instrumental in building the Scarlet Knights program into one of the nation’s elite, including four consecutive bowl victories. Rutgers is one of only five teams nationally to win four consecutive bowls.

“We are thrilled to be able to honor Coach Schiano this year, and recognize his support of Deborah’s very important work,” said Deborah Heart and Lung Center President and CEO John R. Ernst. “In addition, Coach Schiano holds a key and very-visible spot in New Jersey. Besides his impeccable sports credentials, he serves as an excellent role model and mentor to his team, leading them not only to victory on the field, but towards excellence in life off the field.”
Deborah Heart and Lung Center is New Jersey’s premier specialty heart, lung, and vascular hospital. In addition to providing top-notch, state-of-the-art care, Deborah is also known for its own humanitarian mission. Since 1922 when the hospital was opened with a founding motto “There is no price on life,” Deborah has never rendered a bill to a patient, and has provided care to all who need it regardless of their ability to pay. The annual Humanitarian Award is a reflection of the hospital’s commitment to its founding motto.
