Deborah Appoints New Electrophysiologist
John R. Ernst, President and CEO of Deborah Heart and Lung Center, has announced the appointment of Edmund T. Karam, MD, as Associate in the hospital’s Department of Electrophysiology.
Dr. Karam joins Deborah from New York University Medical Center, where he completed a fellowship in clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He had previously completed a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Karam received his B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1998, and his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he subsequently completed his residency in Internal Medicine in 2005.
Dr. Karam holds membership in the Heart Rhythm Society and the American College of Cardiology and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases.
Dr. Karam brings a wide range of expertise in the mapping and ablation of complex arrhythmias. He is proficient with the Stereotaxis magnetic navigation system and the NavX and CARTO mapping systems. In addition, he has expertise in the leading pacemaker, ICD, and CRT-D implantation techniques.
Dr. Karam has multiple academic pursuits and his major research focus involves novel treatment strategies for atrial fibrillation, one of the most common arrhythmias. He has spoken at professional meetings and is an invited grand rounds speaker at several area hospitals.
