Deborah Appoints New Attending Electrophysiologist

John R. Ernst, President and CEO of Deborah Heart and Lung Center, has announced the appointment of Lawrence Gessman, MD, of Forked River as Attending, Department of Electrophysiology. Deborah Heart and Lung Center is a 139-bed specialty heart, lung, and vascular hospital in Browns Mills.

Dr. Gessman returns to Deborah from Cooper University Hospital, where he was Director of Electrophysiology. Prior to that Dr. Gessman directed the Fellowship Training Program at Deborah and headed up the Electrophysiology Laboratory and served as a Cardiologist and Associate in the Adult Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. In addition, Dr. Gessman was the Associate Director of Experimental Cardiology and Director of Holter Technology and Clinical Electrophysiology at Presbyterian-University of PA Medical Center.

Dr. Gessman received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT in 1970 and his medical degree in 1974 from the University of Pennyslvania Medical College. He served his internship at Bellevue Hospital and Cabrini Health Care Center in New York, his residency and fellowship at Presbyterian-University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, and a research fellowship at Columbia College.

Licensed in NJ and PA, Dr. Gessman holds certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine including the Cardiovascular Disease section and the Clinical Electrophysiology Section. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of PA Medical School.
