The Leapfrog Group is an organization that is comprised of over 170 companies and organizations who are made up of Fortune 500 companies and other large private and public organizations that provide health benefits for their employees, retirees and dependents. Leapfrog Group together spends nearly $67 billion each year on health care for 36 million Americans in all 50 states. This Group represents a significant purchasing power in the healthcare industry. The purpose of this Group is to use the way they purchase health care to influence hospitals to improve the safety, quality and affordability of healthcare for Americans. This is achieved by rewarding hospitals who successfully implement health care safety, quality and customer value.
We voluntarily complete the Leapfrog Survey for public reporting for the following performance measures:
Hospital requires the use of computers to order medications, tests and procedures. This is called a Computerized Physician Order Entry system (CPOE). This prevents errors in ordering. Deborah Heart and Lung Center has achieved the highest score “fully implemented” for this measure.
Hospital has an intensive care unit (ICU) that is staffed by doctors and other caregivers who have special training in critical care. These are doctors are called ‘intensivists’.

Hospital has lots of experience and the best results for specific procedures, surgeries or conditions. This is known as Evidence Based Hospital Referral (High risk procedures). Deborah Heart and Lung Center has achieved the second highest score “Good Progress” for this measure.
Hospital has a high Leapfrog Safe Practices Score. This means it has put in place 27 procedures to reduce preventable medical mistakes. Deborah Heart and Lung Center has achieved the second highest score “Good Progress” for this measure.
